port of spain airport

Post by Tom and Janell »

tom and janell (us) this being our first trip to tabago, and not knowing a heck of alot, we thought about just camping out in the airport at the port of spain since our flight gets in so late (after 11pm) and leaves so early the next morning (around 6am) i know its not the best idea but i dont want to take the chance on missing that early flight the next moring. any and all thoughts on this would be much welcomed. tks tom

Lots of people do camp out overnight to catch an early flight but it is for the young at heart (and body) or extreme budget. There are reasonable guest accomodations available nearby but you won't get to see the place in daylight!

What airline arrives so late? Will you have to do the same on your return? We often have to leave Tobago the night before to catch an early flight back to the US.

hugh, its AA arrives in port of spain at 1030pm and or flight leaves the next morning for tobago at 545am, wife doesnt like the idea, but by the time you get off the plane it will be 11pm or later and then you should be back at the airport by at least 430am why not just stay there, guess she an can the final decision. tks for the reply

Tom,and don't forget you will have to clear customs and immigration in Trinidad as the airbridge is an internal flight.

also they want you to be there 90 minutes before your flight minimum in the morning. otherwise they might give your seat to some stand-by passengers (and there are always some, even at that hour!) and put you on a later flight, which can be much later at times... so you should not be there after 4.15 latest!

I always wish they had a room at every airport where you can just rent a simple bunk bed to put down your head for a few hours. sometimes even in the day, if you have 7 hours to cover in an airport it can be tiring (there is only so much you can shop  ).
hope you'll have a not too uncomfortable night and the holidays will make up for it

Our experience with Caribbean Airlines giving seats to standby passengers is that they will start calling standby passengers between 30 and 40 minutes before the scheduled departure of the flight. So if your flight is scheduled at 5:45am, checking in between 4:45 and 5:00 is perfectly safe.
