Hi Steve,

I would just like to thank you for your guide to restaurants and beaches although we have been to Tobago before this is the first time we have done it out of the package as independent travellors and it was fab. We printed out your listings put in our luggage and off we went with our own little guide. So once again a great big THANK YOU!!

We found some great accomodations, check out Villa Iguana and thanks to you we did not miss out on hardly any of the beaches. Talking of beaches we could not find King Peters Bay. We thought we were on the right 'track' but then the road forked between a steep road and a very steep road and considering the ability of the jeep we decided descretion was the better part of valour and gave up!!

I would very much appreciate detailed diretions as our natural sense of where to go, got up and went when we were there.

I thought I loved Tobago and now I know why it is the only Carribean destination we have ever returned to....the natural beauty of the island and it's people.

And we saw a leather back lay her eggs.

Paradise found.

Welcome back and thanks for all these lovely reports. They will be a wonderful guide for everyone else. May I please urge every reader to post reports when they get back. Even if they have nothing new to say, just confirming that other reports and comments are still up to date and endorsed by others will be a great help to every reader planning their next trip to Tobago.

Can’t really help with King Peters Bay. It’s a few years since I went down there, but if memory serves me correctly, you do get down to it via a very long track near Runnemede. Yes, it is rough and steep, but I don’t remember a fork. Can anyone else help? Come in Patrick at Yes Tourism – I’m sure you’ll know.

By the way, Michelle, I hope you can add a few comments on restaurants. Once again, knowing what others think highly influences the general comments we put in the listings.

Thanks for your lovely run-down on eateries - that's just the sort of report we need. I'm worried that people won't see it as much as the post deserves in this General sub-forum, so I hope you don't mind me having transferred it to the Food & Drink section as a new post, under the heading "Back Home - Restaurant Report".

Once again, thanks for these wonderful reports you posted last night. You went to a lot of trouble and I know many people will appreciate your contribution. Thanks.

Hi Michelle

You didn't miss much by not setting foot on King Peter's Bay.
We managed to find it a couple of years ago and were somewhat dissapointed.

We followed the precipitous descent, from the sign post in Runnymeade, and eventually found a rather shabby beach, dark, course sand and tons of rubbish. I don't mean driftwood and natural beach flotsum, but the usual dross that people leave behind, rather than taking their picnic left-overs and drink bottles home with them. One beach we won't return to.
If you have to cross it off of your ' beaches we have visited' list, then you must be prepared to negotiate a 1 in 5, bolder-strewn, tortuous, extreme offroad track. It sounds like the one that you avoided. Do not attempt it if it looks like rain or is late in the day. Your chances of being rescued, in the event of a breakdown, puncture or accident, are just about zero.

Bloody, Englishman's and Culloden are much better bays to visit if you tire of Arnos Vale, Back Bay and Parllatuvier (as if!!!)

Thanks for that Steve. Your information has has been an invaluable supplement to our Beaches (Out & About menu) section and I have updated the entry for King Peter's Bay accordingly.

I had intended to start a full Beach survey during my last visit. It's one of the projects I really, really want to do. I intended starting at Crown Point and working my way clockwise round the island, visiting, photographing and reporting on every beach around the island - access directions, bay and beach description, sand type, swimming and snorkelling ratings, safety, facilities, etc. It will take weeks to do and I had intended to allocate three full days on the last visit. Patrick Dankou of Yes Tourism was equally keen and offered to provide transport and local expertise. Sadly, my timetable was just so full that it never happened. I'll make a start next year hopefully.

In the meantime, I would be really delighted if readers could contribute reports on the less well-known beaches and coves. And nice photographs, pleaes.

Sounds like we were on the correct 'track' and made the right decission not to go. We are back at Christmas and I think I will now cross it off my places to snorkle. We went to Colluden Bay and found very similar only the beach was around 4 ft long.
