All the Castara Retreats accommodation are well thought out and are set up high in the hillside with brilliant views over the bay. We stayed in Birdsong, which has such a lovely setting that we did not go out of the village for the first 5 days. We were lucky on our second day to see dolphins in the bay. Everything about Castara Retreats was perfect. Porridge, who manages the accommodation, was excellent, he visits daily and goes out of his way to help. Jeanelle and the staff there were also very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The gardens are beautiful with trees and flowers attracting lots of colourful birds, which just have to be photographed.
The village is quiet with loads of interesting friendly people and has not as yet been taken over by tourism and you get the feeling that this is the true Tobago. It remains a fishing village and a lot of life there revolves around a hut on the front where the fisherman congregate. The local bread cooked in a clay oven is a must – pumpkin bread especially!
The snorkelling was good and on a day trip out on Porridge & Sherwin’s boat we were in the water with a large Stingray swimming around us so that you could touch it. A brilliant experience. The barbecued fish we had could not have been fresher.

We travelled the Island which is great but really loved returning to Castara.

Whilst there we were discussing coming back sometime. Already booked we will be back in a few months time.
Lloyd, Gwyneth & Sammy
