Police crack down on "PH-Taxis"

Post by Andy K »

Local newspapers report these days that police forces make a new attempt to crack down on illegal
private cars operating as taxis ("PH-Taxis").

Visitors should be reminded that legal taxis are labelled with a number plate beginning with "H".
Those cars are properly insured and the drivers must have a license for commercial transport of passengers.

In recent years more and more private drivers started to drive "PH-taxi", without a "H-license" for the car,
nor an appropriate driver's license or insurance for commercial transportation.

As long as nothing happens, nobody complains, and in some areas, unfortunately, "PH-Taxis" have become
essential for the public transportation of entire communities.

Unfortunately, in case of an accident, passengers may experience serious problems to be compensated for injuries etc.
In addition to this, reports were made, especially in Trinidad, that criminals camouflaged as "PH-drivers", have
lured passengers off the road to rob them.

I do not expect the intended police acitity to be very efficient, at least not anytime soon, so we will still see
a lot of "PH" cars on the road.

Visitors should generally refrain from taking a ride in a private car unless they know the driver personally.

Do have a safe and relaxing vacation in T&T !
