CDW coverage via Credit Card

Post by Roger Wyatt »

My VISA card is a type that includes automatic CDW allowing me not to purchase the insurance when renting cars in Canada and US and other countries as well. However, the card was not acceptable for CDW coverage when I rented a car in Cuba last year. I am wondering if it will cover car rentals in Tobago when I visit there in January? I suppose I can contact my VISA bank but wonder if others have used their cards for this purpose in Tobago.

Hi Roger

I believe this is entirely a matter for your Credit Card company. The car rental agencies do not insist that you take out CDW - it is entirely optional. As a "freebie", it makes sense for your card company to only offer the facility in "home" territorities, rather than having the cost and compexity of handling claims overseas. I would therefore simply check with your card company.

Safe Driving.
