Trip aboard 'Cool Running' - review

Post by Simon »

Yes Tourism organised a trip for our family aboard 'Cool Running' which is a small RIB power boat.

The main purpose of this mornign trip was to see 'The Great Race' which is an annual power boat race from Trinidad and which ends at Tobago - it is quite a social highlight of the year.

We met the very capable skipper 'Franko' at the Mount Irvine beach early in the morning, along with Patrick from Yes Tourism who was along for the ride. Snacks and rinks were plentifully supplied, but the race itself was more of a staggered procession of boats than a race.

Afterwards Franko took us to the reef where we went snorkelling, we were very impressed with his local knowledge and experience. My daughter saw a nursing shark and 'freaked' out - Franko very calmy took her by the hand, reassured her and then encouraged her to follow the shark - truly impressive. Later my youngest son (who had no flippers) began to tire after a very long swim - which Frank had anticipated - so he was just taken calmy in tow by the skipper until we reached the boat. All very professional and considerate.

Afterwards, we were taken for a high speed swoop round the inlet where the mangrove swamps are (sorry I have forgotten its name!) - very exciting and exhilarating.

We were delivered back to Mount Irvine beach about midday. The whole morning was very professional, with good local knowledge, good fun and a great time - well worth it!!
