Hello,
My wife and I will need to spend the night at/near the POS airport in Trinidad, on my way to Tobago (since we arrive late and leave early I don't think it is worth the time or money to travel to Port-of-Spain).
Of the 3 places I can find in Piarco, one has negative reviews, one has good reviews but is pricey (considering what it is) and I can't find a thing on the third. They are:
1. Bel Air International Airport Hotel (negative reviews)
2. Piarco International Hotel (positive, but pricey ~ US$ 105)
3. Airport View Guest House (can't find a single review)
If anyone has recommendations on where to spend the night, you thought would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Eric

Hi Eric
I have only seen the Piarco one from the outside and it looks like the standard nice quality airport hotel. It may seem expensive, but if it includes free airport transfers then you can deduct the taxi fare in your cost calculations. I do not know the other two. Why not have some luxury for one night before you reach Tobago? I do not know where you plan to stay in Tobago, but it might be your last hot shower or cable TV if you are coming on a budget.
If you wish to stay in downtown POS then my aunty takes paying guests in her spare double rooms with private bathroom, opposite the Cascadia Hotel in St Annes, a nice suburb, at very cheap rates. Email me privately. The set taxi fare to and from downtown is tt$120 if this assists your calculations.
Regards

Cannot recommend Bel Air Hotel (overpriced and "crap"), Piarco International Hotel is not cheap but it's quite new and enjoys a good reputation (unfortunately they don't have a website but you can email them at [email protected]. If we have clients having to overnight in Trinidad close to the airport because of late arrivals or early departures we refer them to this hotel. They offer complimentary shuttle service (all they need to know is your flight number and the shuttle will be outside).
I don't know the third hotel on your list either, have heard the name but that's about it.
If you leave the direct airport area you will find small guesthouses,e.g Leo's Place at Trincity (don't know it personally but it is an approved guesthouse, email is [email protected], has 5 rooms and prices are around USD 50 for a double room, it is 5 min. from Trincity Mall, i.e about 15/20 min. from airport, offers private and shared baths, cable TV, Transfers can be arranged).
Happy hunting !!!

I had an early morning flight to tobago one time.
My flight from the states was delayed and got into Piarco very late. It did not make sense for me to go all the way to Fyzabad (south Trinidad) where my family lives, only to have to turn right back around in a few hours.
When I went outside and saw the Airport View Guest House shuttle bus, I asked the guy could I come , and he told me to hop on.
The place is in St Helena Village on a very busy corner. It is noisy, but the KFC right down the street was open late which hit the spot after a long flight with no food service.
It is by no means the Hilton.
There is no hotel front desk. There is a wooden school teacher style desk in the hallway at the top of the stairs. The guy sits there, and takes your money and give you keys. No computer system. He takes your passport and writes down your name and passport number in a big old fashioned ledger.
The guy told us if noone was there when we left to put the keys on the desk. When we left, noone there, so I just put the keys in the desk drawer.
Cosmetically it is looks run down and seedy, but upon further inspections of sheets and stuff, it was clean enough.
Besides, I can stay anyplace for one night. I THINK! LOL
The staff was polite and helpful enough. Because it was so late, I could not buy a phone card to call my family to let them know I would not be coming down by them.
The guy at the desk let me use the phone to notify my family, and I found that to be very considerate.
If someone is looking for luxury, this is not the place.
A place to lay your head for a few hours and showers while you wait for your flight to Tobago...... it will do.

Wow - I'm sure glad I read this thread! I'll be arriving at POS just before 9:00 at night, and was all set to book a room at the Bel Air. I won't do that now. Their website must be just a bit misleading, since it makes the hotel look quite nice.
Guess I'll be staying at the Airport View Guest House, instead.
I sure hope that shuttle is there when I arrive...
