Tobago From Canada

Post by Christian Banks »

Any readers out there able to assist with a couple of Canadians who've been won over (primarily by this site) to take their next Caribbean diving trip to Tobago this January? How does a guy most easily fly form landlocked Western Canada (Edmonton, Alberta) to Tobago? I understand Toronto (a/k/a the centre of the universe in Canada) may have direct flights to Trinidad...

Hey there fellow Canadian!

I'll be flying to Tobago from Vancouver at the end of November and managed to find a great flight with Air Canada through my travel agent (I can pass on her name and number if you'd like). It seems that flights can be fairly pricey due to the fact that we up here have to fly to Toronto first but its definitely workable.

To give you a sense of the scheduling, here's my info. Maybe you can use the info to narrow down your options and find something similar:

Nov26 Dep Vancouver at 10.45pm - Arr Toronto at 6.20am (flight#156)
Dep Toronto at 8.20am - Arr Trinidad 2.45pm (flight#964)

Dec11 Dep Trinidad 3.40pm - Arr Toronto 8.40pm (flight#965)
Stay overnight in Toronto at the Sheraton Gateway attached to the airport.
Dep Toronto 8.00am - Arr Vancouver 10.00am (flight#131)

My flight cost $1080 incl taxes and agent fee (not including Trinidad to Tobago though but that's about $90US return). My hotel overnight in Toronto will be $120Cdn. So yes, I will have an exhausting time going as I'm travelling overnight but other flights were reaching $1400-$1500 inclusive so the sacrifice for me is worth the savings in flight costs.

Added bonus, my flight Vancouver to Toronto is direct, and so is my flight Toronto to Trinidad.

Feel free to email me directly if you want to chat about other plans I've made. Unfortunately, I'm not a diver so I won't be able to help you out with suggestions in that area but I'm a snorkeling fiend - can't wait to get into that water.

And this forum is an amazing source of info too!

Hi there North Americans

In today's Tobago newspaper there is an article stating that BWIA has sought - and obtained - Tobago House of Assembly approval to launch a new weekly direct service from Toronto to Tobago, starting this winter.

It was also stated that direct BWIA flights from Miami and New York are also approved and planned, to supplement the existing weekly flight from Wash DC. In total an extra 600 seats per week would be laid on if these plans come off, non-stop to Tobago.

Before anyone gets too excited these or similar rumours frequently come and go, but I know that our ace editor Steve will keep any eye on developments, with our help. Apparently Lauda Air was also considering a new service from Europe, Austria I presume?, but has pulled out of talks.

Good luck,
Glyn

Hi Glyn

Once again, can I ask that you keep me/the site updated on this direct flight. I have difficulty getting info directly from BWIA - they can be extremely helpful one minute then ignore emails the next. I would obviously like to add details of this flight to our main Air Travel pages once its confirmed.
