We stayed in Essex Cottage which is located in the grounds of Gloucester Place. We were fully self contained but were able to make use of the garden and pool whenever we wanted to which was lovely. There was also a full laundery service provided and changes of linen and towels whenever we needed them. This service extended to beach and pool towels and use of snorkelling gear
Essex cottage is rustic and simple but has everything you would wish for and is very much in keeping with the quieter part of the island where it is located. On the subject of location it was within walking distance of a local bar with stunning views over Parlatuvier Bay ( Glasow bar) and it is only a short walk further to the bay itself where you can buy fish for your supper directly from the fishermen. A short drive the other way brings you to Englishman's Bay and the property affords easy acess to both the north shore and the national park and rain forest. The double bedroom unit below the main part of the cottage is fully self contained with a separate access and has it's own en suite facilities.

There are good car parking arrangements and you do need a car if you stay here. We were a party of four adults and there was plenty of room for us all.

For us there was nothing better to sit on the porch day or night with all the shutters open letting the outside in to our little home! The views out to sea and beyond are wonderful and lying in the infinity pool it feels as if you can dive into the sea below.

Our arrival had been delayed due to bad weather in the UK yet Bea and Win the owners not only waited up for us but also stocked our fridge and brought us daily supplies of bananas from their garden.

Don't stay here if you want the bright lights and constant entertainment ( in fact do not go to Tobago!!) but do go if you want a restful time and access to the most beautiful parts of this wonderful island. There are lots of places still to see in the world for us but if we return to Tobago ( highly likely) we would only want to stay here.

Gill, Rob and Nicola Struthers and Andrew Bird stayed at Essex Cottage - 8 to 24 January 2010
