IMPORTANT: visas and getting to Tobago

Post by Dave »

This is copy of my post directly to administrator Steve, because of importance for me:

Hi Steve,
As you maybe know,I (with my girlfriend) want to go to Tobago in 22th November (via London) . We want to be in Tobago till 14th December. I have spome questions: my travel agent get visas for us,but term on visa is from November 22th till November 30th- she told me,that this is O-K., length of our stay in Tobago will immigration officer asign on airport in Tobago. Is it right? Another question: she told me that I MUST have confirmed accommodation for all days of my stay on Tobago before. How is it? This may be problem for me,because I have only 14 nights paid before, rest nights I want to find (and pay) when I will be in Tobago. PLEASE reply my post as soon as possible. Thank you very much. Dave,Czech republic.

Hi Dave

The validity of your visa (the dates on it) refer to the dates for travel and your agent is correct - you will be granted leave to enter at the airport, usually for three months, possibly less for nationals requiring visas.

I would follow your agent's advice and try to extend your accommodation booking for the whole period, she probably is reading the guidelines from TIM (travellers' information manual) which covers immigration and visa laws for every country in the world.

Why not email your hotel, explain the problem and get them to give you a non-paid option to stay on for the whole trip to satisfy immigration - ie the two weeks will be confirmed with payment, the rest will be booked but with option to cancel. Bigger hotels won't mind this, subject to space.

Good luck
Speak to your agent again if still worried - get them to sort it out before you travel
