Great website. Just what I was looking for. I'm planning to come to Tobago in February 2003 with my three children. I want to do some diving - whilst they sit on the beach. I'm very much a tourist diver - not into the macho stuff. I've read that the Orinoco has an influence on the waters around Tobago, particularly regarding visibility. Whilst this might not be a problem for seasoned divers, as an infrequent diver I'm looking for gin-clear seas. So, given my lazy diving requirements, am I better heading further north in the Caribbean, eg to Grenada. (There, I've said it.) I'd appreciate an open and honest view on the dive conditions and where I should stay in Tobago. Regards

Hi John, rest assured that you will find first class diving in Tobago in my humble opinion it is amongst the best in the caribbean. February is one of the best month for diving, it's in the middle of the dry season so the visibility is usually excellent. The influence of the Orinoco is mostly felt in the rainy season up to December, depending on the currents the water might have a greenish colour, but on the other hand it is full of nutrients attracting a lot of marine life. Even whales have been reported by divers last year. I am diving in Tobago since 1989 and I am still fascinated with the variety and abundance of marine life, as a tourist diver you will be pleased with the fact that we have many good dive sites accessable directly from the beach. Feel free to contact me if you need more info about hotels , guesthouses etc.

Hi John I've just returned from Tobago (stayed at Le Grand Courlan). I've dived from several of the Caribbean islands, and Tobago is right up there with the better ones. The seas were mild - although some tricky shore entries due to the surf - and the visibility excellent. I've had good reports from several of the Dive Shops, and I dived with Adventure Eco Divers and they were great - they regularly took beginners, and Albert there was excellent. Have a great holiday.
