We stayed here two nights, before moving on the the North of the Island. The welcome we got from Karen was lovely. We came straight from the airport and decided to walk, but she sent a taxi to look out for us.
She made us feel very relaxed and welcome. The room was more than adequate for our needs and the informal and friendly atmosphere exactly right.
The position is great - two minutes from the main beach and a 15 minute walk from Pigeon Point, (although it's really easy to get a taxi there and back).
Karen explained about how to use taxis, what to expect to pay, which local stores were good and even took us to the Mall on the first afternoon when we needed to sort out a phone connection. It felt more like talking to a friend and we felt very comfortable asking her anything, which was good given this was our first time in Tobago and everything was very new to us.
We ate at Kia's morning and nights - very relaxed meals in an informal setting. On our second night she arranged a guide to take us to see a leatherback turtle laying eggs - a wonderful experience.
This was our first trip to Tobago and we couldn't have had a warmer welcome. My only regret was we had booked another place for the end of our stay. I would have liked to come back to Kia's.
If you want honest, friendly accommodation at a good price, and you want a flavour of great Tobagan hospitality then we'd definitely recommend Kia's Across from the Beach.
