Hi,
Could someone please give me a tip (or two) regarding accommodation in Tobago?
We are a swedish couple who are planning our first visit to Tobago.
We would like to stay on the "west coast" of Tobago (anywhere from Store bay to Arnos Vale).
We would like a quiet accommodation not to far from the beach (max 10 min walk) with AC + balcony/ patio and refrigerator/ kitchenette. And not to far from restaurants.
Price range: max 200 USD/ room/ night
If someone has got any idea or tips..
Many Thanks,
Annika

Hello Annika
Your budget gives you a wide choice – frankly, a couple can have a wonderful holiday on Tobago for US$200 TOTAL per day, including meals.
Remember that once out of the Crown Point area, nowhere will be within walking distance of more than one, or possibly two, restaurants – so my advice would be to look for rooms at around the $75-$125 mark and hire a car. It all depends upon what level of “luxury” you want and whether you want a hotel (Arnos Vale Hotel, Mount Irvine Bay), guesthouse/inn (Mount Hay Retreat, Indigo, Seahorse Inn, Polo Bar) or apartment (Castara Retreats). I have restricted my choice to places outside the Crown Point area to keep the list down to reasonable length (and why stay in the Crown Point area if you have a choice?

Where to stay?
Hi Annika,
We've just returned from Tobago after 2 glorious weeks. We moved around the island but ended up at Stonehaven Bay for the last 4 days which was possibly our favourite place- busy enough that you can get a drink or some food but quiet enough to have a fair amount of it to yourself. It was lovely for swimming and the snorkelling was good too.
We stayed at Indigo which is about 5 min walk from the beach and when we were there (low season) was us$75 a night bed & breakfast for 2. It's really a restaurant with rooms so the accommodation is simple but clean and stylish with large balconies. Each room has a fridge, tea/coffee facilities and aircon. There is a plunge pool on site and if you do hire a car there is private parking available. It's a very friendly place, run by a lovely Irish couple who moved to Tobago quite a few years ago and are happy to suggest places to visit etc. The rest of the staff are typically Tobagonian (i.e smashing) and there are also the dogs who deserve a mention for making Indigo feel like home from home- they were so charming I think they'd even convert non- dog lovers.
The food at Indigo was great especially the steak (around TT$140) and if there's something you fancy trying, e.g conch or goat, just let the staff know and they'll cook it for you. Otherwise the Courlan restaurant and Seahorse Inn are over the road. I would recommend that wherever you stay you try and get to the Seahorse Inn for a meal- it was magnificent.
I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time wherever you stay but Indigo was a delightful place and we are already talking about going back for a week next Spring. If you want more details feel free to pm me.
