Getting there from here!

Post by Darenda »

Each year I booked vacation travel on line but this one is making me crazy...I am trying to get to Tobago from Pittsburgh, Pa and cannot find any flight services! What am I doing wrong??...does anyone have any recommendations on sites? OR Travel agents versed in getting to Tobago?

Our intended travel dates are Aug 12/Fri - Aug 21/Sun.
I have a dive shop and accomodations reserved JUST NEED TO GET THERE!! And really really WANT to get there.
Thanks for any help, Darenda

Darenda,

I used vayama.com for booking my flights to and from Trinidad and Tabago. We are traveling next week, so I'll know more then how the reservations played out. Good luck and safe traveling!!!

I have been flying to Tobago from Boston since the 90s.

I now either use an agent or buy on-line just to Barbados or to PoSpain, because it is very difficult to get the web sites to recognise there is air travel between Trinidad and Tobago.

There are flights from Atlanta -- Delta, I believe. and Houston, I think, with Continental, but I travel either with Caribbean Air from NYC or with American Airlines. The best one for me is the PoS flight at 10? 10.30? out of Miami, so you would need to leave Pitsburgh Very Early, or the 1.30 pm which gets to PoS too late for going on to Scarborough that day. I have, though, had a few wonderful journeys with Caribbean Air at the old BeeWee time from Kennedy at about 1am.

You MUST book with Caribbean to and from PoS/Tobago or you might well get stranded at either end.

The drag is getting to Miami in time for the 10?/10.30 flight because American Airlines, on-line, insists on a long break between flights so often do not show one can get to Miami in time for the flight.

There are flights through San Juan, too, but they have never been easy for me to pick from Boston so I get all the way in one day.

I hope this is a little helpful

No more Delta from Atlanta. That was a good thing while it lasted. Only 11 hours from San Francisco.

You covered the other options quite well. We usually fly American to Miami to POS and then to Tobago (TAB). The Caribbean Air flight from JFK looks good, especially during warm months when weather would not be a factor. Continental works too but tend to arrive POS too late to continue on to Tobago same day. That may have changed.

Good luck. Keep us posted when you figure it out.

Thanks, Hugh 8)

THANKS your replys! At least I haven't missed anything in my search. I did find one online late last night that puts into POS at 6:45 PM then onto the jumper to TAB at 8:15 PM. Is this enough time to clear Customs? And it is also a Friday night. Does this matter?

I plan to call airlines directly to "talk" to a person who can help me navigate this trip. Knowing the typical Customs routine/time requirement will help. So please rely!

I think if we start walkin' and swimmin' now we will be there by AUG!
Will keep you posted........I LOVE this site!

Darendra,

1 1/2 hours between ETA in Piarco and departure to Tobago is too tight. Book a flight after 9 pm.
If you happen to arrive early and get through immigration / customs fast, the staff at the Tobago check-in may
put you on an earlier flight.
Don't take a chance especially on a friday night.

Cheers,

Andy

Darenda,

i am surprised, you are right, apparently there are no flights after 8:15 p.m. in August. Right now there are
flights until 9:25 p.m.
You may need to contact Caribbean Airlines and inquire.

I am getting closer!!!! It looks like I have to get to JFK (in New York) then take the 1AM Carribian Airlines flight to POS...can't seem to get a connecting flight from Pittsburgh where our (heavy scuba bags) bags would be transfered for us. We would just have to lug them around for the day until we can get our boarding tickets with Carribian. The family seems ok with this option! Trying to get an extra day for travel from the college kids and husband so we don't lose a day by this crazy airline schedule! Will keep you posted.

One thing I have to figure out is the time between POS and TAB. Carribian Air only is giving us and hour and a half! Hope that's enough!

If you are booking to Tobago on Caribbean Air they will get you there the same day. Please do confirm that with Caribbean Air.

It's when you arrive POS on any other carrier that there could be a problem.

I have finally found flights but they are all ONE WAYS so we get the most time in Tobago and the lease time traveling. There has got to be somebody somewhere that could have done this much quicker. We fly from Pa to NY take the 1am flight to POS and onto TAB by 8:05 am, Return by way of Ft. Lauderdale then Pa! See you in Aug! Thanks for the help, I took and used all of the advice!
