Late night taxis

Post by Richard Gandy »

Is basing yourself in one place, using public transport to get to another village/town, and relying upon late night taxi's (say c midnight) home an option.

Driving late at night and not drinking is not an appealing option on holiday !

Hi Richard

Very sensible. Yes, it’s a perfect option. Just pre-book your return with the taxi that takes you there. Waiting time is cheap, so you won’t be ripped off if he has to wait a while (but warn him on drop-off if you’re not likely to be out on the dot). It’s generally best to use one of the taxis stationed outside your hotel as they are least likely to risk their ‘franchise’ by letting you down and not arriving for the return.

Thanks Steve - a great website by the way.

How about if we went by say route taxi, or bus (my Rough Guide says there are new buses and time tables by the way - any comment ?) and then picked up a taxi as we would understand it - is this easy enough.

Forget it! There'll be no buses at that time of night and you'll be hanging around for ages (hours).

I agree with Steve. The busses start at about 7am and finish about 7pm.Whilst they are "good" value during the day taxis are the best option.Use the taxis outside your resort book return, warn if the timing may be flexible (not to flexible) and you're in.The drivers are very helpful and friendly,I found it best to adopt one and use him or his recommendation all the time.Enjoy yourself ,it is a wonderful place.

More Taxi info please

I have noted the set taxi fares from the airport, but do you how much do they generally cost for short hops between say Buccoo and Plymouth or S'bro.

Ideally I was looking to get a cheap bus/route taxi during the day from Buccoo, and hire a taxi later at night in say Plymouth or S'bro after a few beers !

Do you think this would be difficult ?

It would always be advisable to pre-book taxis for late evening returns. Cost would depend entirely upon how far you're travelling of course. Figure on a £5 fare for most journeys, but more after midnight (not that there's many places open after midnight on Tobago)
