Moonlight Mountain Retreat is situated high in the hills of rural Tobago with spectacular views of the Caribbean and Atlantic. Atop its own rainforest nature trail with bamboo grove and a haven for wildlife, we offer a unique experience of Caribbean living in a traditional style house, surrounded by tropical fruits, flowers and birds.
Group yoga/alternative holidays run annually from January to November. The centre is run with empathy and knowledge of the island by Ginny Plumpton BWY DIP and her Tobagonian husband, Kelly, who have been known to complement the sessions with informal sessions in local dance forms, reggae, soca, and salsa. Reflexology, Reiki Swedish massage and Bowen Technique are also available on our poolside deck or in our studio..
The house is built along traditional lines, it is what is called in the Caribbean a gingerbread house - a reference to the decorative fretwork which adorns the outside. Set in what used to be agricultural land and designed to catch the sea breezes, it has its own kitchen garden, fruit trees, a nature trail through rainforest and a bamboo grove. A couple of steps from the kitchen door and you can pick your own fresh fruit for breakfast
The house has large comfortable bedrooms, each opening out onto a veranda with spectacular views. The verandas - ideal for practising yoga - catch the cooling breezes. There is a wonderful library with a selection of local literature as well as classics. The house provides shared, double or single accommodation in a homely relaxed atmosphere.
Beyond the garden a gently sloping path leads you to a nature trail that winds through rain forest and a grove of graceful bamboo.

From the moment arriving at Moonlight Mountain, we were warmly greeted by Ginny & Kelly, which was a great welcome for our first time in Tobago. We had found out about the house through Trip Advisor, as we wanted something a bit different from one of the standard hotels on the island. It’s situated on a hill overlooking Scarborough with the most stunning view over the city on one side, and into the lush forest on the other. Each room has it’s own balcony and very comfy hammock, and the overall vibe is sheer relaxation.
Throughout the trip, Ginny was the best guide we could have wished for, with amazing knowledge of the Island and key advice for things we couldn’t miss out on. She was extremely helpful and gave a personal touch that could not be found in the larger hotels.
We had breakfast every morning, which was a great way to start the day, with tasty flying fish some days and scrambled egg other. There was always fresh fruit, very tasty homemade juice and we ate it while over looking the stunning view from the house.
We took part in one of Ginny’s yoga classes in Kariwak, which was a truly spiritual and relaxing experience. If we had more time, we would certainly liked to have taken advantage of more yoga with Ginny, as she was a great teacher and had a really great knowledge of the practice.
Overall, accommodation is a big part of any travelling, and our time at Moonlight Mountain made us have an amazing holiday to Tobago. A wonderfully relaxing paradise, with a really personal service that made our trip the best it could be, we would certainly recommend it.

We stayed at the guest house over Easter 2013, unfortunately Ginny was away in the UK whilst we stayed but, Kelly made sure we had a good time, we were given the apartment to stay in even though we were B&B guests which made our stay even more enjoyable. The property was very clean and comfortable and breakfast was more than adequate. The view from this property is stunning and the surrounding gardens full of interest.
The trip into Scarborough is a pleasant 5 min drive and you will find all the shops and eateries you need readily available. When the express ferry from Trinidad arrives it is a sight to behold, never seen such a large ferry before and it makes an interesting half hour stop, in a harbour side drinking hole, watching the to and fro of passengers and vehicles.
We did not partake in the yoga but, having spoken to a couple of Ginny's friends, one at the Shore Things Cafe in Lowlands, and the other at The Backyard cafe near the airport just along from the Store Bay beach, we would say anyone who likes that sort of thing will be well cared for, look out for thier "Wellbeing Weeknds" which sound good value.
All in all a very nice stay in good quality accommodation at a very reasonable price.
