Wedding at Grafton Beach

Post by Warren B »

Hi

Firstly am I posting in the right forum ??

Have read all posts with interest, and despite this have decided to go ahead and book a holiday our first holiday to Tobago at the Grafton, Also a double plunge so to speak and have booked a wedding at this resort all due to take place in early Dec 2003. :D

My opinion of previous gripes is that any hotel can have a bad period in its life, and some tend to get to the core of the problem quickly and others seem to bumble along until things get too bad, then they loose face and ultimately custom. My personal opinion is that the problem of food was dealt with quickly and to the credit of the hotel.

From a posting by the trinidadian fellow (apologies forgot your name) and by steve it appears that the hotel is a formidable site now with minor tweeks needed to make it excellent. 8)

Does anyone know what we can expect from a wedding there or has no-one on this site witnessed or had a wedding at the Grafton. :?:

As for the rest I will draw my own conclusions on arrival and whilst staying there, I am easy to please and do not go on holiday with the British disease of looking for faults to complain about, and send to "Holidays from Hell". If the food isn't right I'll leave it and try something else, the advantage of the buffet is that there is always something for every taste.

All comments gratefully recieved.

Hi Warren

You most certainly are in the right forum.

You are perfectly right in everything you say and have no fear – I am confident that you are going to have a wicked ( 8) sorry, folks – there’s nothing sadder than a 55-year old trying to be "cool") stay at the Grafton.

Yes, the Grafton and LGC (Le Grand Courlan) have gone through a rough time. Some may even say that it was a long time coming and that sad as it was (for Tobago), it wasn’t totally surprising. These hotels had been slipping over the years, particularly since they went All Inclusive. However, the problems at the end of last year brought them up sharp.

I ate at LGC during my last trip and had a lovely meal. I would have absolutely no hesitation or reservation about staying or eating at the Grafton. Nay, I’ll go further – the Grafton is probably the safest place to eat on the island. Nowhere is more cautious about standards and hygiene that the staff and management of this hotel (the kitchens are even under CCTV surveillance by management).

Sadly the problems hit occupancy badly and the Grafton is only now re-building its custom. Therefore, there is a bit of a dearth of reports. Philip’s report may have been a little over-enthusiastic, but I think we can safely say that in comparison to other hotels of similar star rating and price, the Grafton must be a very safe, good bet. I am confident that you will see lots of reassurance posted in this forum long before your departure.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your response, much appreciated ..

As a seasoned traveller, I seem to have missed out on Tobago and have even overlooked it to go to other places on 3 occasions. but no more I have come to my senses and have chosen this Isle for the forthcoming marriage to a wonderful woman.

DO the the LGC and GBR share the same Kitchen? or are they independent ? Is early december too early for turtles on the beach ? (the egg laying kind)

As a slightly younger man than yourself I consider wicked to be a well cool saying that is wasted on the young LOL do they know how to be wicked ? in the fun sense ? your obviously still running on Tobago time since your recent return. long may it stay !!

Unfortunately it appears that complacency may have cost the GBR dearly in the short term but I wish them every succes for the future and trust they can throw a good spread ? for our do!

Unfortunately most brits dont consider food to be good unless it has chips,Ketchup pizza's or burgers on the menu. with a good old english beer on tap for good measure !

Will post my comments on my return and look forward to other comments from you lucky folk who travel before we go

Hi Warren

The kitchens are completely independent and separate. The two hotels are side-by-side, but completely different staff and primary facilities. They share one or two beachside facilities and visitors to the Grafton have the opportunity to use LGC facilities like the spa.

Yes, sadly December is too early for turtles. I believe that are even still a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

I didn’t visit the Grafton at mealtime (I was too busy scoffing lunch next door at LGC), so can’t comment – but I seriously suspect you won’t see much evidence of burgers or pizza. Bound to be chips and I’m sure they’ll have ketchup at the back of the kitchen, though – so fear not.
