A book about Tobago?

Hi Folks


My biggest problem is deciding what to put in. There will probably be two editions - a larger, fuller edition in full colour, plus a smaller 'pocket' edition in black and white.

So, suggestions more than welcome.

A quality book is a great idea.

Just scanning through the topics in the header bar and drop-downs I found enough material to fill a definitive text on Tobago.

The accomodation and eating out sections are probably going to be the most fluid but the reader can always check out the latest info. by referring to the web pages or forum.

One thing that would be a real asset to any book, especially the 'big up' colour version would be large scale maps and must have lots of lovely pictures too.

It should also have a whole chapter devoted to the subject of mozzy and sand fly repelants Come to think of it - that could be a book on it's own.

Yes, one of the options I am considering is that of ebook pages that can be downloaded (for a fee) by those who do not want to wait the few days for the hardcopy book. However, the preparation work is much the same to be honest. Once I've got the edited content, then it will be a relatively easy thing to present it in the different formats so that readers can decide whether they want it as a download, a full-colour book or a pocket reference guide.

Hi Carol

As much as the forum is the most popular part of the site, devouring 60% of total readership, sadly it would be the one part that would be impossible to include in the hard-copy. Mind you, we would most certainly have to include mention and somehow get across what fun it can be.

Referring to your valued comments, Steve P, I couldn't agree more - but maps are a big problem primarily because of the very high cost of getting a licence to reproduce data. I was very lucky with the cartography for the website, but sadly the cartography used is very much out of date. In fairness the changes are fairly minor, so I wonder if we could run to a grahic artist making the road corrections? Would it really matter if the road from L'Anse Fourmi to Charlotteville was 'guessed' rather than based on accurate cartography, for example?

The other headache is Accommodation. We list some 350+ properties. Would it not be a waste of paper and ink to try and list all these. And, what information would we list anyway? Maybe just a summary of the largest hotels, inns and guest houses? Forget the villas and apartments?

Dear Steve,

what a brilliant idea! I will order one book for me, one for Frank and Alice who joined me in 2005, one for Barbara and Michael and one for Martina and one for Mathilde, who joined me in 2006 and five for my Tobagonian friends.
It will also be a perfect present for all my friends who never made it to Tobago yet!

I like it in paper, could never get friend with ebooks though it seem to be easier to keep it actual.

Well Steve, I'm sure you will do it right!
