Bruv,
I tried the triangle of fabric thing too; always a different colour to the trousers. Could you put your trousers on after your shoes?
David, I like to go barefoot whenever possible, but mainly indoors, my garden, the beaches on Scilly, and of course, Castara! Wouldn't try it locally; too much dog mess!
What about your hair David? In 1973, when I was 17, mine was down to my waist. Wish I still had one...

Tony
Of course I did ! Usually with the most inapprpriate fabric i.e satin .Used to buy my kaftans from a tiny shop in Plymouth had a huge sunflower painted on the wall which slowly became a garden as people added to it. And always the sweet smell you and Bill recall so fondly. Still have my afghan in the attic -how sad is that  .

Would have had long hair but sold it when I was seventeen to bum around Greece for a summer.

Sandra,
Are you telling us you made enough money from your hair to go to Greece? What's the going rate for hair these days I wonder?

Not sad at all Sandra. I find that as more time passes I wish that I'd kept more stuff that could bring back happy memories.

I''d heard of selling hair to raise money but never come across anyone who had done it. One time Janette and I sold blood in Istanbul to raise enough money to get back to England.

It's a strange thing getting getting old isn't it? Up until I was around 45 I lived for the present, for the now, but as the years pass I find myself increasingly indulging in nostalgia. It's a bit like dipping in and out of an old and much-viewed movie. Even the really bad times are somehow soft-focused and sweetened when seen from a distance.

I feel a 'what's it all about?' coming on so I think I'll go before I start waxing hippie-lyrical.

Tony

Oh Tony
Don''t sound sad- you have made me smile all day even when cleaning out the dreaded wheelie bins. As much as I loved those dizzy days I also recall times of acute discomfort. Didn''t mind then but damn sure I would now. Anyway now the nest is empty we can indulge our love of travel in comfort, age does have some advantages I feel.
P.S Wax hippie lyrical anytime, I love it.

As if I'd lie to you O Queen. Way back then hairdressers could not dye a natural looking red, having been born with required colour ,made a very tidy sum. OK, didn't finance the whole trip but went a fair way.

So Sandra,
You're a redhead eh? Lucky thing! I love red hair.

Bruv,
I understand about your "What's it All About" moments." Just don't get into any "If Only "and" I Wish " moments. I have dozens of them, alas. A total waste of energy!

David,
Ever considered selling your golden locks then? They are naturally golden I take it?

Just waiting up for my daughter to return from a 16th birthday party.
Night all

Morning Bruv,( just spotted David, then he did a Scarlet Pimpernel and vanished  )

I must be in a very soppy mood this morning ( watch out) I keep looking back at your photo and like Sandra, I keep smiling. What I love is the fact that you and Janette met when you were so young, and are still together after all this time. Two hippies made for each other.
Peace and love Man.
Good morning starshine... :D

Hello fellow wafflers,
I love the current hippy, nostalgic, indulge in memories of yesteryear thing that going on just now. :D
Leaving home to go to start my nursing training in London was scarey :!: but as a dedicated follower of fashion WOW what fun I had shopping in the Kings Road and Carnaby St. Living in nurses accomodation in Fulham it was only a short tube ride to retail heaven.Yeah we didn't get paid much but board and lodging was stopped at source so food was free at any time in the canteen and with rent already paid the money in our pockets was just for spending :!: .Could't go to The Hammersmith Palais without looking the part. Still managed to save enough for holidays though. Four of us took a horse drawn caravan round some of southern Ireland starting and finishing in Cork.So much fun.Few months later two of us flew to Paris and hitched to Switzerland for two weeks in February :!: . We got into and out of a few scrapes and how I carried the huge rucksack so far some days I really don't know but it was great.
As for the kaftan in the attic, last winter I was wearing the Italian made pure wool poncho that was indeed bought in the Kings Rd in '69 or 70 :!:
That sweet smell really was everywhere and although I never indulged first hand I can well remember a few parties when the effect of alchohol seemed far greater than it should have been :?: At the time I smoked Benson & Hedges king size or Consulate depending on the mood and thought I looked cool #-o.Gave that up after a couple of years of watching people dying of really bad things.
Tony and David, the photos are great, At face value the epiphany of establishment and antiestablishment and yet neither of you fit those particular moulds, I love it and it is really making me join in with the smiling.More from anyone please?

David, youv'e certainly chilled out considerably since that pic was taken. You must only have been about sixteen or seventeen. You seem to have played out the game of life the opposite way around to me. I started out as a total drop-out who believed that having FUN was the most important thing in life and only now in middle-age have I slipped into a need for security and stability. Now you are working towards becoming the bum that I used to be. Respec'.
SandraK wrote:As much as I loved those dizzy days I also recall times of acute discomfort.
You mean like amoebic dysentery, malaria, riding on overpacked, home-made buses on unmade mountain roads with a two thousand foot drop inches from the wheels etc. Yeah there's a lot of stuff I simply wouldn't have the bottle to do now but I'm so thankful that I was foolhardy enough to have done it then 'cos even the scary and uncomfortable things were just part of the adventure. And shouldn't life be just that... an adventure?

Sis, don't worry, I don't do regrets and neither should you. It's not good for the old equilibrium.

Love to All

Tony

Loved the photo how very proper you looked. Great comment on the honeymoon question !

Tony
Managed to avoid anything life threatening, how heaven knows, but rickety buses and various stomach problems were ever present as was the constant worry of not knowing where the next meal was coming from. Like you I seem to have become respectable - how did that happen ? :? Our son seems to be going the way of his parents, six months work, six months travel, like us his motto is "Life should be FUN ".No worries.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm but how to dance in the rain

A sunny good morning to all you philosophers!

Bruv,
I left school at seventeen and joined the Civil Service (instead of being a bohemian writer, which is what my English teacher wanted me to do-sorry Miss Walsh!) so was I suppose "establishment" like young David.
My regrets are more about what I didn't do when young, rather than what I did! But as you so wisely say, regrets upset the equilibrium. Maybe as my youngest offspring is virtually grown up and the older generation of my family are all gone now is the time to release the rebellious hippy I've always had inside me.What do I do about the O.M.though?

Oh dear, this is heavy for a Monday morning!

Sandra,
I love that about dancing in the rain!

David D1941936,
Don't be upset with Tony and Sandra; take their comments as compliments; I would!
I saw your reply to the honeymoon question, and am really pleased with myself that I didn't post the reply I had in mind, as you no doubt would have pleaded innocence and told me off. Tony and Sandra have dealt with it nicely, but I wonder if the poor chap is still hoping for some advice...
Peace Man

Morning All!
Where are you all? It's just bots on line at the moment.
So, if we're in to old photos, here's one I found at random from the mountain of albums I've inherited from my mum; circa 1960/61 ish, when I was just a princess..
