POOL/RENOVATION UPDATE

Post by Steve Wooler »

The following message was posted by reader Tim Green in a thread in General Questions a short while. A copy is posted here for the information of all visitors thinking of a holiday at the Rex Turtle Beach.

Hi all,

I'm due to stay at Rex Turtle Beach on the 1st Jan '04 so was as concerned as anyone with regard the building of a new swimming pool and refurb.

I sent a mail direct to Rex Resorts in London expressing these concerns and asking whether I would be staying at the Rex with 'work in progress' with the associated workmen and tools. I had this reply yesterday (18th Dec '03 @ 16:00Hrs):

Quote: "I am glad to say that all renovations at the Turtle Beach are complete and the new swimming pool is looking fantastic with its swim up bar and Jacuzzi."

Hi all

Oh dear! Don't forget your hard hats and steel toe-capped boots when packing is my advice, as if it was complete by 18th December then the local management/myself must have been seeing things...more builders' bums than you could shake a stick at.

Although I received no reply to my email to the Rex Turtle Beach in Tobago, asking about the renovations/improvements, I am delighted to say that I have managed to make contact with their Head Office in London. I am getting a completely different reaction from them and hope to have some positive information to post here in the next day or two.

In the meantime, the following photographs were sent to me by a reader. The pool looks magnificent and I agree with Glyn's remarks that it must be one of the nicest pools on the island.

Dear all

Just returned having taken these pics. Here are my observations:

1. Pool delightful - the few guests seem to be loving it and not mindful of the odd power tool noise in the background (and builders finishing what appears to be a changing or toilet block). A credit to the hotel and blends in well with adjacent beach;

2. Staff friendly - security didn't mind me taking the pics, which I told them, truthfully, was being done to show prospective visitors; Might have been different had they known the terrifying medium which I planned to use!

3. The Rex HQ spokesperson in London must have told Tim Green porkies yesterday in their note of the 18th December, claiming that the work was complete (although perhaps they themselves have been misinformed, or maybe the builders in my pics are just over exuberant builder tourists on a busman's holiday?).

4. Work is clearly nearly over in the public areas - roofing etc. What is happening with the room renovation is another question in itself, best answered by either The Rex itself (please?) or those guests visiting in January - Tim Green etc. Hope that work does not intrude anyway - there will be sanctuary in that pool at least.

Regards
Glyn
