Over the course of this weekend I have had some very interesting and rewarding communication with Edmund Sidonie, the new General Manager of the Rex Turtle Beach hotel.
Firstly, good news for Marc, Richard, Tim, Barry and anyone else with concerns of possible building work at the Rex during forthcoming stays. Edmund says:
Edmund is going to send me a full synopsis of the work undertaken at a later date. However, we can take it as official that there are no further planned closures or major building/renovation/refurbishment programs likely to affect anyone’s holiday or cause inconvenience while at the Rex Turtle Beach.I would like to state categorically that there are absolutely no plans to do any renovations in May 2004 or for that matter any other period in the near future.
Unsubstantiated rumours about closures can be very damaging to a hotel. I believe that this rumour first appeared on tripadvisor.com. My only advice is to stick to myTobago.info if you want accurate reliable information about Tobago.
After that unashamed plug for myTobago, may I congratulate the Rex Turtle Beach for the way they have handled the building of the new pool and any other work conducted at the same time (the buildings have been repainted, judging by the photo above). The building of the new pool – arguably the biggest and best on the island – has obviously gone extremely smoothly and was a very major undertaking. Despite this, myTobago have received absolutely no complaints from readers. I understand that the entire project was accomplished within six weeks. This is remarkable by most standards, but truly astonishing for Tobago. I was particularly surprised, but delighted, to hear that the entire project was done by local contractors using local labour, not imported, and accomplished during the wettest month of the year. I think a big hand of applause should be given to all involved. Well done!
