Has anyone visited this resort? I would really appreciate some info about the place. Virgin holidays has an excellent offer, £598 for flight and 14 nights room only DEC 03. This seems too good to be true does anyone know the catch? I need to book pretty soon so all comments will be very much appreciated

Hello Nora The Rex Turtle Beach is a popular all-inclusive "family" resort. For some reason that I can't fathom, we never get comment on this hotel, despite people like yourself regularly asking for feedback. At the price, you can't really go wrong - Virgin must be offering this to promote their new flights to Tobago (its cheaper than flight-only tickets with Monarch or BA). Budget for a hire car so you can get out to all the best restaurants and tour Tobago, and go for it - I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.

thanks Steve, i'll certainly remember to write a review of the rex turtle once I get back. Ive just booked the holiday and i'm sure it will make a great base from which to explore the island. Your website is outstanding and has certainly helped me decide on Tobago for my next holiday.

Thanks Nora - At that price you're in for a real treat. The Rex is ideally situated, as long as you've got wheels. We're off to Tobago for 4 weeks in a couple of weeks. Keep posted. We're doing full reviews of seven hotels, guesthouses, apartments and villas, plus walk-around reviews of as many of the larger hotels as possible (including the Rex). We're also hoping to write more exhaustive reviews (plus piccies) of every decent restaurants. This site was only a vague concept when we were there last January, so this visit will allow us to complete the research that will take myTobago.info into to a whole new level, content-wise. All the best

I know of several families over many years that have travelled from England to Tobago and stayed at Turtle Beach for great rates like what you have quoted. I wish someone offered same deals from Canada! Turtle Beach has been around a long time( I been going since '73) offers basic accommodation on the leeward side of the island. Its a quiet location. There are lots of great restaurants, beaches within a 5 to 10 min. drive. I would suggest with the money you save, rent a car for a few days.

We have been staying at the Turtle Beach since 93 and have always found it basic but excellent value. And there is no road to cross to get to the beach! We now have a house in Tobago but we often go and have early evening drinks at the best place in the island to watch the sun setting and the pelicans (and even frigate birds) having their feeding frenzie. We also go to Jackie on the beach for massages - well worth it. And yes at the price Virgin are offering its as cheap as flight only with Monarch or BA so go for it. So with the savings hire a car for occasional days -ts really worth going around the island.

hi, I've seen really conflicting reports of Rex Turtle beach and have the option of booking a very cheap holiday there, but has to be tomorrow morning. Nora doesn't seem to have written the review she promised. Is there anybody out there who's been there recently?

Hi Carolyn I don't think Nora is going until December next, so her report wouldn't be very convincing if she's written it already. Paul and Mary's posts above seem to neatly sum up everything I've ever heard about the Rex Turtle - very basic, but great value. Depends on the deal you are being offered. I don't think the foods brilliant, but go on a room-only basis, budget for a rental car and eat out. You could have a terrific time.
